Strolling on the Path

Sunday's run was a good one. It felt good. It was beautiful weather-not hot and humid like today. Liam and I ran with Gene and Marni on the Rail trail. We did 6 leasurely miles with a couple of stops for water. I think I ran just as fast with the stroller as I have by myself-about a 10 minute mile.

Liam behaved so well-mostly keeping quiet and not objecting to the ride. He got out after an hour and ran around the parking lot picking up rocks and talking to the weeds.

Today Liam went for a pre-op doctor visit with Caroline while I was at the chiropractor. Caroline was running late to the doctor due to work, causing her stress. Then Liam called 911 on the doctor's office phone. Ah, life with a toddler.

My back was extremely tight. I went because my back gets tight and inflamed periodically and we have extra flexible spending money this year. Originally, Liam's appointment was 1:15a but it was changed to 10:15 and I kept my doctor's appointment at 9:30am. Good thing I did because they took an updated x-ray and I didn't get out until 10:30am.

As soon as I got out, I got a message that Caro called. We had a short notice house viewing scheduled. I went home and got the house tidy and left for a few hours. I'm sure someone will buy our house soon.

What a great Father's Day

The whole weekend was pretty much all good all around. Saturday, me and the family went up to see my brother and then Liam's godparents. Liam is so good around other little kids. He likes to interact with them and be a little clown. He has his moments, but this past weekend he was pretty darned good.

Sunday's run was a 10.3 trail run with Gene and Ali through the trails of West Hartford Reservoir. I had the rare opportunity to lead the run because no one was familiar with the trails so it was fun to be the leader for the day. We ran about a 10:30-11 minute pace which was pretty okay considering it was very hilly.

One of the highlights of the run was the singletrack near route 44 in Avon. Gene mentioned that it would be a great submission to Runner's World as a "Rave Run." I must remember to come back some day and take a photo for that. It truly is one of the more remmarkable areas of Connecticut.

We bumped into Kathy and Marisa towards the end of the run at mile 9. Kathy had her dog Emmy with her. They were just starting and we were just ending. After a short chat, we were all on our merry way.

In the parking lot, I saw Amy and the Team in Training crew who were just starting up training for Hartford and Nike Women's. I stopped to stretch with them. Amy was cool. She was one of the nice mentors and is always helpful. TNT needs more mentors and coaches like her.

When I got home, Liam brought me a card he had made in school with the help of his teachers. I know he doesn't understand fully what he is doing, but I know that he walked into the kitchen and presented it to me like it was a great prize, and it was. It was a picture of him embedded in a cardboard tie. The "tie" was a cardboard cutout with yarn attached in a loop so you could wear it. Aside from the picture of Liam, there were doodads of footballs, soccerballs, etc.. It was the best present I've ever gotten.

Recovery Run

Today I ran/walked a recovery run prescribed to me by active.com. It began with a 5:00 walk and then ran 4:00, walked 1:00 6x. The plan calls for this recovery run and then to do a 40 minute weight session which I ignored. I've always read that it's imperative to do strength training PRIOR to running so why would i lift AFTER running, even if it's a light run? I should have stretched more than I did after the run. I hope I don't pay for it down the line.

I ran into John, Kathy and Marisa at the Rail Trail. Kathy had made fudge filled chocolate cupcakes. They were good!

Caroline and Liam came along and walked the trail. It was a little humid, but the bugs were more annoying than the weather. I'm sure warmer days are coming. We need to move our group runs to 7a or earlier if we want to beat the heat.
